Sunseeker Builds on Success in Australia
Yet again, Sunseeker International is beating the odds. Despite a global recession, the UK-based luxury motoryacht manufacturer achieved another record-breaking year in 2008/2009 with a turnover of £303 million (AU$540million) - an increase of 3.4% on the previous year's best ever result.
The company has accomplished this remarkable feat thanks to a number of factors, most notably by increasing exports by over £50 million (AU$89million) in the last three years. At the heart of this activity are the company's forty worldwide dealers, who have helped turn the UK's largest production boat builder into a global icon.
One of the company's most successful dealerships is proving to be Sunseeker Australia. Following a highly successful presence at the Sanctuary Cove, Sydney and Mandurah boat shows in 2009, Sunseeker Australia, operated by Barbagallo Marine saw a healthy surge in both enquiries and orders, proving that Australia is a growing market.
Sunseeker is keen to return the favour. The company has recently commissioned Queensland-based MouldCAM to develop hull mould technolgy for an innovative new range of Sunseeker designed series-custom superyachts. The initial development programme, the preparation of the moulds for the new Zeus 150 superyacht - will involve an investment in excess of AU$8million.
Through extensive research, Sunseeker identified MouldCAM as the perfect technology partner because of its strong reputation for engineering solutions and world-class design and production expertise.
The Zeus range will include a number of designs for luxury series-custom yachts from 46 metres up to 54 metres, which will cater for those customers demanding larger, more individual designs.
The investment in the Zeus project - in the UK as well as Australia - underlines the company's move into the superyacht market, a natural step for a firm that's already achieved huge success with their 30 metre-plus models.
For Sunseeker Cheif Executive Officer, Robert Braithwaite CBE, the move into Australia is a logical one: 'We have already secured orders for the Zeus 150 and Zeus 164 models and have generated a high level of interest in them from the design stage with enquiries from around the world. This project reinforces our commitment to the Australian market and to world-class engineering technology. We also see this collaboration as an important tool in helping us sell the Sunseeker product into the competitive Australian market.'
